Ella L. Guetersloh (Kessel)
Ella L. (Kessel) Guetersloh was born near Ava, Illinois on June 16, 1933, in Jackson County, Illinois, to Herbert and Mary Ethel (Browder) Kessel. She entered Heaven's gates on June 23, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at her daughter's home in Carterville, Illinois. Pastor Gary Harroun from Trinity Lutheran Church performed Last Rites.
Ella married Roy M. Guetersloh on June 22, 1951, at Christ Lutheran Church, Jacob, Illinois. They shared fifty-five years of marriage and he preceded her in death on December 20, 2006. Ella was a farmer's wife. Together, they raised five children on a farm in Jacob, and later on moving on to Murphysboro, where she was a coal miner's wife. In later years, they became Florida snowbirds enjoying many winters at Lake Okeechobee. They were both active in the American Legion and V.F.W. in Murphysboro, playing bingo many nights.
Ella is survived by children Marsha (Victor) Turner of Carterville, Donna (Mike) Cobin of Royalton, Terry (Valerie) Guetersloh of Carterville, Bonnie Helton of Marion, and Larry (Donna) Guetersloh, of West Frankfort.
nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren;
She is also survived by her brother Fred Kessel;
sisters Ruby (Bill) Bush, Grace Kessel, and Billie Ruth Kessel, sister in law Marilyn Guetersloh and brother in laws Marvin (Ginger) Guetersloh and Carl (Peggy) Guetersloh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister in laws and their husbands Geraldine (Philip) Reams and Maxine (Roy) Hearell
As per her wishes, Ella will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2018, at Pettett Funeral Home, Murphysboro, with Pastor Michael Henson officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 N.
