Lela Mae Keown Neely (Plough)
Lela Mae Neely, 94, formerly of Murphysboro, passed away at 5:30 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2017, at the Rennes Nursing Home in DePere, Wisconsin.
Lela was born on June 21, 1922, in West Frankfort, Illinois, to Henry Ray Plough and Oma (Hopper) Plough.
She had worked as a cook at the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Mrs. Neely was a member of the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro.
Lela married Eugene Keown on April 8, 1939, and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1963. She later married Cecil Neely on August 6, 1964, in Murphysboro and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1992.
She is survived by three children Sally (Carl) Tripp of Murphysboro, Nancy Vincent of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Donnie (Earlene) Keown of Royalton;
seven grandchildren Michael Tripp, Karen (Randy) Elliott, Chris (Lori) Vincent, Tammy (Joe) Krouse, Angie Peterman, Brian Keown, and Albert (Katie) Keown;
four step grandchildren Missy Yancey, Pamela Ketring, Mary Bolen, and Chris Bolen; and several great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren;
one sister Virginia Davis of Sturgeon, MO; and several nieces and nephews including a special niece Barbara Jenkins of Marion.
She was preceded in death by one son and daughter in law Larry and Judy Keown, one step daughter Elizabeth Bolen, one son in law Lee Vincent, one step granddaughter Belinda Bader, two sisters, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Gilbert officiating and burial at Oakland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro.
