Obituary for William (Bill) H. White
William (Bill) H. White, 78, of Murphysboro, died at 7:57 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018, at his residence in Murphysboro.
He was born on October 8, 1939, to Teresa (Brown) and C..Edgar White. He married Judy Maes on February 19, 1977.
Survivors include his wife, one son Ryan of Murphysboro;
grandchildren Holden and Morgan,
one sister Judith Ann Tweedy and one brother Richard E. (Sharon) White of Murphysboro;
nieces Joanna (David Logan) of Murphysboro, Jennifer (Zahit Katz) of Arizona, Denise Gen (Ed) of Pennsylvania, Christy LeVay (Jason) of Alabama;
nephews Tom Harmon (Amy) of St. Louis, MO, Jeff Harmon (Stacey) of Cape Girardeau, MO, Michael Galletta (Tiffany) of North Dakota, and one brother in law Steve Maes (Susan) of Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Teresa, an infant brother, James Anthony and brother in law Paul Maes, Jr.
Bill attended St. Andrew Catholic School, Murphysboro High School, and Southern Illinois University.
Bill honorably served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant in Vietnam with the 101st Screaming Eagle Paratroopers He received several medals and awards including the Combat Infantry Bade, Combat Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, U.S. and Vietnam Combat parachutist Badge, and the Combat Commendation Medal.
Bill was an associate for thirty five years with his brother, Richard E. White's law firm. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was an avid reader and chess player. Bill had been an Eucharistic Minister to the Jackson County Rehab Center, a former Boy Scout Leader with Troop 4, and a 4th Degree Knight of the Knight of Columbus # 988. He was also a life time member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 and Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127.
There will be no visitation.
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2018, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, then the Funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. with Father Gary Gummersheimer and Father Federico Higuera officiating. Burial will be at St. Andrew Cemetery with military services conducted by the Paul Stout American Legion Post # 127. Memorials may be made for masses or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
