Charles Lee Yates
Charles Lee Yates, age 93, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, August 20, 2006, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.
Charles was born on October 3, 1912, to Charles E. Yates and Marjorie Ellie (Harris) Yates in Bloomfield, Missouri, but lived his entire life in Murphysboro, Illinois.
He was married to Edna Jane Graff on October 2, 1973, in Murphysboro, and she preceded him in death on April 16, 2006.
Mr. Yates was a member of the First Christian Church in Murphysboro.
Charles served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked for the former Brown Shoe Company as a sole layer for forty years, and subsequently, for the State of Illinois for eight years as a correctional officer at Menard, when he retired.
Mr. Yates gave many years of his life to maintaining the Boucher Cemetery in Murphysboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Arthur Albert Yates, Paul Yates, and Robert Yates, and three sisters Edith McKinney, Mary Ellen Blacklock and Juanita Adams.
Charles is survived by five nephews Pat Yates and Mike Yates, both of Murphysboro, Dale Adams of Marion, IL, Rev. James McKinney of Indianapolis, IN, and John McKinney of Madison, IN;
six nieces Margie Crain of Tyler, TX, Phyllis Ticer of Valmeyer, Judy Davis, Sheryl Will, and Violet McFadden, all of Creal Springs, and Mary Lynn Yates of Peoria.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his nieces Alice Svanda and Mary Reiman and his best friends and neighbors Otis and Mary Wyatt for their ever present support.
