Dorothy Gladys Qualls (Thompson)
Dorothy Qualls passed away at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Carbondale Rehab and Care Center in Carbondale, Illinois.
She was born on September 30, 1923, in Murphysboro, Illinois, the daughter of Wiley E. Thompson and Gladys (Cheatham) Thompson.
Dorothy had her masters degree in education and taught school for 35 years, mostly in the Murphysboro school system.
She loved reading her bible and going to church to worship the Lord.
She was married on June 12, 1954, to Walter L. Qualls, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1992.
Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Charlotte;
one brother Wiley E. Thompson of Las Cruces, NM;
two sisters and brothers in law Gilda and James Newton of Carbondale, IL, and Mary and Floyd Crawshaw of Las Cruces, NM;
four nieces Cheryl Newton, Shannon Thompson, Susan Seggerman, and Jane Grimes;
three nephews Jimmy and Rakhee Newton; Wiley C. and Tina Thompson, and Daniel Thompson;
one great niece Isabelle Thompson; and two great nephews Noah Thompson and Michael Grimes.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Voorhees officiating and burial will be at Pate Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Pate Chapel Cemetery.
