Deon Smith, 78, of DeSoto, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018, at his residence in DeSoto.

Deon was born on August 9, 1939, in rural DeSoto, Illinois, to Marriett Smith and Irene (McKinnies) Smith.

He had worked as a journeyman carpenter.

Mr. Smith was a mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge in DeSoto.

Deon is survived by his partner Frances Crawshaw of DeSoto;

three sons Eric Smith and Mary Morgan Strothmann of DeSoto, Darren and Terri Smith of Carterville, and Dustin Smith of Carbondale;

five grandchildren Eric Smith, Chase Smith, Jacob Smith, Lauren Smith, and Zach Smith;

one brother Tommy (Brenda) Wayne Smith of DeSoto;

one sister Spring (George) Miles of DeSoto;

and four nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
