Obituary for Gary L. Rains
Gary L. Rains, 61, of Murphysboro, passed away at 5:03 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2018, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Gary was born on April 10, 1957, in Murphysboro, to Fount Rains and Ida Mae (Ozburn) Rains.
He had worked as an automobile mechanic.
Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, Nascar racing, and spending time with his grandkids and family.
He is survived by three sisters and one brother Brenda Johnson and her husband Bob Johnson of Murphysboro, Sharon Waldrop and her husband Bob Waldrop of Carbondale, Jerry Rains of Pomona, and Anna Marie Clayton and her husband Mike Clayton of Murray, KY;
several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles;
a close friend Tillie Rains;
and two step sons Charlie and Rhonda Nance and their children Reis and Rylee Nance, and Beau and Jennifer Nance and their children Logan and Cooper Nance, all of Murphysboro.
He was preceded in death by one brother Robert Rains and his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Allen officiating and burial at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
