Obituary for Phyllis Jean Borgsmiller

Phyllis Jean  Borgsmiller
Phyllis Jean Borgsmiller, 90, of Murphysboro, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Century Assisted Living in Carbondale, Illinois.

Phyllis was born on March 13, 1928, in Murphysboro, Illinois. Her parents were Ruby (Fraley) and Judge Fred B Herbert.

She was a homemaker and with her husband owners of B & K Furniture in Murphysboro.

Mrs. Borgsmiller was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro and was a member of St. Andrew Altar & Rosary Society and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She was also member of the Murphysboro Apple Festival Committee, was involved with Jackson County Workshop (START) and served on the Board of Directors for the First Bank & Trust Co of Murphysboro.

Phyllis married Rupert “Per” Borgsmiller on June 11, 1949, in Murphysboro and he preceded her in death on December 20, 2006.

She is survived by her three sons and their families:

Steve and Mary Borgsmiller of Sikeston, MO and their daughters Emily (Brian) Moxey and daughter Olivia, Ali Glenn and children Birdie and Hank, and Betsy (fiancée Seth Colwick);

Rupert “Tom” and Therese Borgsmiller of Springfield, IL and their family Rupert Nathan (Cara) Borgsmiller and daughter Avery and Johanna (Drew) Hall and children Louis and Elliott;

Phil and Becky Borgsmiller of Carterville, IL and their son Eric Borgsmiller;

cousin William Fraley and Leslie of Galveston, Texas;

and her lifelong friend Avis’s daughters Debbie (Steve) Glodo and Gaye (Jay) Youngman and their families.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Century Assisted Living for her care during her time at Century.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2018, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Gary Gummersheimer officiating with burial at St. Andrew Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew Church or St. Andrew School.
