Obituary for Bill E. Daum

Bill E. Daum, 95, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:16 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Manor Court of Carbondale.

Bill was born on June 19, 1922, in Murphysboro, to Carl and Ella (Emling) Daum. He and his wife and family lived in the house that his father built and Bill lived there up until four years ago.

He had started working for Preston Jones carrying newspapers and then drove a propane truck. He then went to work and retired from the maintenance department at SIU-Carbondale.

Bill loved the town of Murphysboro and served on the City Council for many years. He was very honored when the Murphysboro Administrative Building was named after him.

He was known for being a number one St. Louis Cardinal fan!.

Mr. Daum was one of the oldest members of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Murphysboro.

Bill married Maxine (McRoy) on September 17, 1944, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ, and she preceded him in death on September 14, 2012.

He is survived by his daughter and son in law Diana and Chuck Steinbach of Carbondale.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, April 7, 2018, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ with Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's United Church of Christ or to the charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Manor Court and Liberty Village for their excellent care and kindness. The staff helped the family in making a very hard time easier for both Bill and his family.
