Joyce A. Reed, 76, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at her daughter's home in DeSoto, Illinois.

Joyce was born on May 12, 1941, in DeSoto, Illinois, to Ben Mezo and Ethel Barnett) Mezo.

She had several jobs in the area and also volunteered many hours.

Mrs. Reed was Christian by faith.

Joyce married Homer Reed on December 27, 1971, and he survives.

Other survivors include two children Michael Etherton of Murphysboro and Sheila Chamness and her husband James Chamness of DeSoto;

two step children Debra Trammel and her husband Bob Trammel of Springfield, IL and Tim Reed of Carbondale;

nine grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren;

one brother Paul Mezo of DeSoto;
two sisters Emma Gottschalk of Cambria and Lilly Snider of Hurst;
and one brother in law Robert Reed of DeSoto.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and her parents.

Her body will be cremated and a gravesite service will be held at 2 p.m Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at the DeSoto Cemetery in DeSoto. Memorials may be made to the Murphysboro Senior Citizens Club, 17 N 14th Street, Murphysboro or The Vine Church, 1445 S. Wall Street, Carbondale, IL 62901.
