Obituary for Shirley Roberta Koenig

Shirley Roberta  Koenig
Shirley Roberta Koenig, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, January 12, 2018, at St. Joseph Hospital, Murphysboro, Illinois.

Shirley was born in Metropolis, Ill. to Robert and Izetta (Lindsey) Smith on September 4, 1935. She married Edward Koenig on February 11, 1960, who preceded her in death on November 5, 2006.

They had one daughter, Cindy (David) Holt of Murphysboro, and two granddaughters Christian Holt of St. Louis and Michelle Holt of Murphysboro.

She is also survived by three siblings Betty (Chuck) Thate of Bozeman, MT, Alice Kulenkamp of Gillespie, and Rick (Karla) Smith of Crown Pointe, IN, and a sister-in-law Denise Lougeay of Murphysboro.

Mrs. Koenig is also survived by three special friends, Melinda Stuhrenberg, who was like a daughter to her, and Melinda 's husband, Chuck Stuhrenberg and their son Kyle, as well as Vicki (Terry) Oetjen and Shirley Summers.

She was known by many as Grandma Shirley and loved keeping tabs on each of her adopted grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Smith.

Shirley was a former co-owner of Koenig Accounting Services, Inc. in Murphysboro.

Mrs. Koenig was a member of St. Andrew Church in Murphysboro. She belonged to the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary, St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and American Legion Post # 127 Ladies Auxiliary, all in Murphysboro.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon at the church. Burial will follow at Murdale Gardens in Murphysboro. Memorials may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church, St. Andrew School Building Fund, or Hospice of Southern Illinois, Inc.
