Lawana Nadine Hufnagel, 86, of Murphysboro, passed away at 4:03 p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Lawana was born on June 18, 1931, in Murphysboro, Illinois to Ransom E. Mattingly, Sr. and Vernice E. (Russ) Mattingly.

She had worked at the former Brown Shoe Company, had been a telephone operator in Murphysboro, and then worked as a bookkeeper for Borgsmiller Grocery, also in Murphysboro.

Mrs. Hufnagel had attended the Abundant Life Fellowship, before her health had declined. She was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 7190 Ladies Auxiliary in Murphysboro.

She married Edward K. Hufnagel on November 6, 1952, in Murphysboro, and he preceded her in death on August 20, 2003.

She is survived by one son and daughter in law Marc and Julie Hufnagel of Murphysboro;

two granddaughters Brittany Hufnagel of Murphysboro and Jessica Cook of Jonesboro;

one great granddaughter Naomi Cook of Jonesboro;

four nieces Debra, Diana, Donna and Jane; and four nephews Derek, Dennis, Don, Jr., and Rodney.

She was preceded in death by two brothers Ransom Mattingly and Donny Mattingly and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Janice Devor officiating and burial at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
