Obituary for Bonnie Mattingly Johnson (Carpenter)

Bonnie L. Johnson, 92, formerly of Gorham, passed away at 12:55 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Independence Care Center in Perryville, Missouri.

Bonnie was born on November 12, 1925, in Royalton, Illinois, to John Carpenter and Gena (Hale) Carpenter.

She had worked for twenty seven years and eight months as a flexible clerk at the Gorham Post Office and retired in January of 1988.

Mrs. Johnson enjoyed working outside, especially mowing her lawn, raising flowers, and gardening. She also liked to bowl and at the assisted living home, she loved wii bowling.

Bonnie married Charles G. Mattingly on November 12, 1945, in Gorham, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on May 4, 1977. She later married Floyd Johnson on April 7, 1990, and he preceded her in death on January 2, 2008.

Survivors include three children and their spouses Terry and Cathy Mattingly of Palm Coast, FL, Jeanne and Jason Brown of Fisher, IN, and Charlie and Connie Mattingly of Perryville, MO;

With Floyd, she had ten step children, including two step daughters and their husbands, Mona and Fred Froemling of Campbell Hill and Euba and Walter Crane of Murphysboro;

seven step sons and their wives Gene and Lillian Johnson, Carl and Carol Johnson, and Austin and Lisa Johnson, all of Murphysboro, Gary and Mary Johnson of Ava, Bob and Cindy Johnson of DeSoto, Frank and Sandy Johnson of Pomona, and Herb and Kathy Johnson of Dowell;

and one step daughter, Lana Johnson, who preceded her in death.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and twenty three step grandchildren;

fifteen great grandchildren and forty two step great grandchildren;

one sister Inez Powers of Energy;

She was preceded in death by one great grandchild, two sisters, three brothers, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Pettett Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Burgard officiating and burial at Goodbread Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Kindred Hospice, 4783 Flat River Road 100 B, Farmington, MO 63640.
