Gloria M.  Johnson (Scicchitani)
Gloria M. Johnson, 90, of Murphysboro, passed away at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at her residence in Murphysboro.

Gloria was born on September 3, 1926, in Revere, Massachusetts, to Thomas Scicchitani and Philonema (Schiavone) Scicchitani.

She was a housewife, but she had been a Purchasing Agent for the U.S. Government. She loved to cook for everyone and was an avid reader. She was a tremendous Boston Red Sox fan.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in Murphysboro.

Gloria married Elmer E. Johnson on June 17, 1946, in Revere, Massachusetts, and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1972. She is also preceded in death by one son Glenn E. Johnson, one daughter Lisa M. Johnson and one grandson Joseph D. Johnson.

She is survived by one son and daughter in law Dennis T. Johnson and Sharon Harris-Johnson of Murphysboro;

three grandchildren and their families, Katharine Johnson Suski and her husband Roger Suski and their children Asher and Ella Suski, all of Ames, Iowa , Melissa Johnson Bonhoff and her husband Brad Bonhoff of Minneola, FL, and Robert P. Johnson and his children Isabella and Anna Lee Johnson, all of Williamsburg, VA;

one sister Alyce Fitch of Portsmouth, VA; and one sister in law Leona Scicchitani of Revere, MA.

Mrs. Johnson is also preceded in death by one infant brother, two brothers Victor Anthony and Thomas Scicchitani, two sisters Catherine O’Dell and Evelyn Mattarochia, and her parents.

Her body will be cremated. Her husband was buried at Arlington National Cemetery and her cremains will be placed at his gravesite at a later date.

Visitation will be be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, (please note date) at Pettett Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Murphysboro Food Pantry or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Gloria’s memory. For more information, please visit www.pettettfuneralhome.com.
