Bonita "Bonnie"  Pinkerton (Minton)
Bonita "Bonnie" Pinkerton, 87, of Murphysboro, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, surrounded by loved ones.

Bonita was born on June 20, 1929, in Pomona, Illinois, to Tiff Allen Minton and Elda Marie "Becky" (Bridgeman) Minton.

She was a graduate of the Class of 1948 of Alto Pass High School.

Bonnie moved to Murphysboro in 1948 and started working at the candy counter for F. W. Woolworth Store and later worked at the Jacket Factory after she was married and until her children were born. After her children were in school, she worked for Hanna's Green House.

Mrs. Pinkerton was a member of the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro, where she was a member of the Helping Hands Sunday School Class, and was a Holy Folder helping to fold the monthly newsletters. She was a member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and she volunteered at the gift shop at the hospital.

Bonnie had started bowling at the Murphysboro Bowling Alley and then later in Carbondale, bowling several nights a week. She was a member of the W.I.B.C. and the 600 Club. In 1976 she has the opportunity to bowl against Dick Weber, the professional bowler, and he had to strike in the 10th frame to beat her.

She was a member of the Murphysboro Senior Citizens where she enjoyed playing pinochle with her friends each Monday afternoon. She was also a member of the Route One Hobby Club.

She loved to mow grass and she and her husband had twin John Deere lawn tractors to mow their large country lawn.

Bonnie also enjoyed college basketball so much, that she held season tickets for the Saluki Basketball Team.

She married Lawrence "Larry" Pinkerton on August 12, 1951, in a double wedding, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 2003.

Survivors include two children and their spouses Jim and Kathy (Atchison) Pinkerton and Nancy and Dennis Fager, all of Murphysboro;

three grandchildren Janelle (Fager) Pulcher and her husband Jason Pulcher, Benjamin Fager, and Todd Fager and his wife Sarah Fager, all of Murphysboro;

six grandchildren Maddie Pulcher, Karsyn Pulcher, Gavin Pulcher, Reagan Fager, Palynn Fager, and Harrison Fager;

one sister Wilma Kimmel of Mt. Vernon;

and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Murphysboro with burial at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pettett Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
